Our EMWMUN Co-Secretary Generals

Holly Deng, President; Jamesville DeWitt MUN
                  hdeng13@gmail.com

I am currently a senior at Jamesville-DeWitt High School and delighted to be the first annual EMWMUN’s Co-Secretary-General. Model UN has made me realize I was part of something much bigger than a committee for a weekend—I was in a community connected by diplomacy, compromise, and passion. Often positioned in committees like WHO and UNEP because of my interest in health-related issues, I have seen how closely science interacts with society, e.g. malaria cannot be eradicated by just providing for vaccines, as disease affects a nation politically, socially, and economically. This has furthered my interest in pursuing global health. The thrill of debate and research has transformed how I look at the world and my place within it—from a once quiet listener in committee to a now confident and understanding leader. Model UN has connected me to an incredible network of delegates and friends, and I hope your experience in MUN does the same. Aside from MUN, I also love running cross-country, co-captaining Science Olympiad, playing flute in Syracuse Youth Orchestra and pit orchestra, and participating in piano, math, and art endeavors.

 Chelsea Gell, President; Baldwinsville

Hi! My name is Chelsea Gell and I'm a junior at C.W. Baker High School in Baldwinsville, NY.  I have been participating in Model United Nations for two years now and have loved every second of it!  I am so excited to be the Co-Secretary General with Holly at this year's East Meets West MUN Conference.  MUN has been a great opportunity for me to expand my intellectual horizons by introducing me to a variety of topics prevalent in world politics today.  I have also gained important people skills such as cooperation, compromise, and communication.  Overall, MUN is the best place for me to release my (not so inner) nerd!  I hope that everyone at East Meets West MUN has a world of fun and makes connections that will last them for the rest of their lives.  Besides MUN, I also participate in musical theatre and the arts, am the treasurer of my school's Key Club, and volunteer at an assisted living community.
